Grooming your pet is a daily part of their care and a basic requirement in order to keep them healthy and happy.
Grooming can be done at home or at a professional groomers using a variety of equipment including brushes, combs, scissors and clippers in order to keep a dog’s coat in the best condition. This also helps to maintain the dog's welfare and welbeing.
Standards for grooming
The Kennel Club issue a standard for each breed detailing how the dog should look and behave. This includes how the dog should be groomed and the techniques to be used, often referred to as the ‘breed standard’. This is how pedigree dogs must be styled for show purposes and traditionally how pedigree pet dogs have also been groomed.
Breaking away from traditions
However, in recent years, the popularity of new cross breeds such as Labradoodles, Cavachons, Cockerpoos, Puggles and Maltapoos has enabled dog grooming to become more creative and break away from the traditional styles of dog grooming.
